Pakistani-American Khizr Khan who gained international fame after former US President Donald Trump's understanding of the Constitution was nominated to be awarded. The nation's most prestigious civil prize is the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Vice President Joe Biden on Friday announced the winners of this prestigious honor. Which includes Khizr Khan from 17 noted Americans. Olympic gymnast Simone Biles and former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs (posthumously). And former Senator John McCain (posthumously) will also be honored with the award.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom, created by Former President John F Kennedy, is the most prestigious civilian award that is awarded to individuals. Who has made exceptional contributions to the economic prosperity or values of the US or world peace? Any other significant social endeavors, either private or public in the past, The White House said in a statement.
"President Biden has long said that America can be defined by one word: possibilities," the report added.
"These seventeen Americans demonstrate the power of possibilities and embody the soul of the nation. Hard work, perseverance, and faith," the White House said further.
"They have overcome huge obstacles to make impressive achievements in the sciences and arts committed their lives to fight for those who are most vulnerable and demonstrated courage to bring about transformation in their communities and all over the world and blaze trails for future generations.
These awards are handed out at the White House Thursday, July 7.
Khizr Khan was a Gold Star father and founder of the Constitution Literacy and National Unity Center.
He is a well-known proponent of the law as well as religious freedom. So, He served on the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom under the presidency of Joe Biden.
He became famous after he publicly confronted the current US president over his understanding regarding his knowledge of the US Constitution. The son of the president, US Army Captain Humayun Khan died in Iraq in 2004.
Khizr Khan was born in Lahore in Pakistan, where Khizr was a law student at Punjab University.
Then, he went to the US with his family to pursue his study at Harvard Law School, before finally settling in the US.
