The Federal Minister of Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique has declared that the PMLN following the PTI's victory in Punjab by-polls will determine the next steps after consulting with its allied parties.
The PTI has won at most 15 twenty constituencies according to unofficial results however the PMLN was able to win only three. Independent candidates beat one PTI contestant in just one of them, and a tight race for the Rawalpindi seat was in the process early on Monday morning.
"We will hold a meeting with allied parties to decide what to do next," Rafique stated during a late Sunday evening press conference, along with the PML-N's other leaders. The federal minister announced that his meeting will include all allies and will be held the next day (Monday).
Premier Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended an independent gathering of the party earlier on Saturday in Lahore. Rafique stated: "PMLN is a democratic party and has always accepted people's decisions." "We could have cried like Imran Khan but we will not do it," Rafique stated.
The PMLN leader stated that his party "saved the country from going into default by putting its political future at risk. We will however continue our efforts and decide our next steps shortly."
He also blasted PTI Chairperson Imran Khan for bringing up false allegations of rigging and said the results of the election "proved Imran's allegations about rigging false". "The Punjab government remained neutral throughout the election process and no rigging was done by state institutions," said the official. stated.
